So we did it! May 22nd was a big day for my sweet mother, Cayson, and I. We ran our first 5k. As the day approached I was quite nervous. What if I was the last person to cross that finish line? Nobody wants to be that person. Worse than coming in last, was the thought that I wouldn't make it to the finish line at all. What if I hit mile 1, then fell over and passed out and died. Hey, it could happen. Or what if people laughed at me because I was so blasted slow? All these thoughts ran over and over in my mind all week. But, when the day came I was stoked! As they counted down to start the race, my heart was pounding, I was pumped, and I was ready to kick this race in the butt! My mom and I decided we would stick together no matter what and we did. I was so proud of her! She ran pretty much the entire time. Neither she or I have ever been runners and she nailed it! I was so proud of her! It really was inspiring to see her run and I had so much fun doing the race with her! Thanks mom! We finished at 36 minutes and 38 seconds. Which I know to some of you may not seem amazing… but if you know how slow a runner I have always been then you know I was freaking proud of us! And no, we did not finish in last place nor did we die!
While my mom and I were doing our little run. Ryan and Cayson did their little run as well. The entire week prior Ryan was convinced he would be walking the entire way. He volunteered to push Cayson in the stroller because it was "just a practice for the Nestle 5k" and that he was too out of shape to run it anyway. Well, we had barely started the race and there he was running right past us, stroller and all. Ryan {and Cayson} ended up kicking our butts by three minutes. Out of shape… nothing. I was so proud of Ryan. Ryan later told me he had even helped some kid riding his bike get up the "death" hill. He was pulling the kid and pushing the stroller and managed to get his body up there too. I admit I was barely able to get my own body up there. So I was rather impressed. (for any of you that have been to our house, you know that right before you turn onto our street there is a hill that is so steep that in the winter you had better have 4 wheel drive to get up it, because otherwise you will never make it. Yes, this hill was part of our run… and I now call it death hill.)
